About the Organization
Founded in 1773, Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia, was the nation's first public facility constructed solely for the care and treatment of people with mental illness. Today, Eastern State Hospital provides recovery-focused, individualized inpatient acute care mental health services in a modern, comfortable setting. Located in a beautiful suburban setting in Eastern Virginia, our state-of-the-art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.
