About the Organization
Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is a not-for-profit health system serving 350,000 residents across Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia. Operating 13 hospitals, multi-specialty physician practices, home health agencies, HomeCare Stores and retail pharmacies, ARH is the largest provider of care and single largest employer in southeastern Kentucky and the third largest private employer in southern West Virginia.
The ARH system employs nearly 6,000 employees and has a network of more than 600 active and courtesy medical staff members representing various specialties. Consistently recognized for its medical excellence, the ARH system is one of two Kentucky health systems to be named to the 2012 IMS Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks list of the most highly integrated healthcare networks in the nation, and was selected as the 2010 Outstanding Rural Health Organization in the nation by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). Most recently, the Harlan ARH Hospital was named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. ARH is determined to meet the highest standards in clinical and administrative quality through what it calls Appalachian Excellence. ARH is also committed to building healthier communities through education and preventative programs that tackle health risks such as diabetes and lung disease. And, as a partner to government, business, schools and other healthcare providers, ARH is determined to continue strengthening local communities and improve the overall quality of life for all area residents. For half a century, ARH has touched tens of thousands of lives in Central Appalachia. As long as there is a need, ARH will be there.
