The DSH system consists of five unique facilities located throughout California: Central Coast, Napa Valley, Los Angeles, Inland Empire, and the Central San Joaquin Valley region. All five of the facilities are fully licensed, and some are accredited by the Joint Commission. There are two types of commitments to the state hospital in-patient facilities: forensic and civil.
