Medical Oncology Associates of San Diego are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our well-established physician group practice in San Diego, CA.

Medical Oncology Associates of San Diego (MOASD) offers a complete range of oncology services in an atmosphere of professionalism, encouragement, and understanding. Physicians at MOASD are board-certified medical and surgical oncologists. Our mission is to provide personalized care for the detection, diagnosis, treatment, support, and follow-up of cancer patients and their families. MOSADs mid-level providers offer years of experience working with cancer patients and receive ongoing advanced training in oncology care. Recognizing the importance of providing all services under one roof, MOASD offices house a medical oncology infusion center, physician offices and exam rooms, and on-site registration.

About the Role
The Registered Nurse will provide direct and indirect patient care, reflecting initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Handles emergencies with skill and accuracy while maintaining a calm demeanor.
Effectively performs assessments on all patients before beginning chemotherapy infusion.
Accurately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Effectively educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
Accurately interprets data about the patients status to identify each patients specific needs and provide the care needed to the patient. Reviews labs and assesses patients response to treatment promptly.
Ensures all aspects of patient care are performed in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors.
Strictly adheres to the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors, following Oncology guidelines and MOASD policies and procedures.
Formulates an effective teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning. Provides emotional support and includes family as appropriate. (i.e., chemotherapy and central line)
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
Provides an interdisciplinary approach to patient care by effectively consulting with other health team members/departments.
Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families by MOASD standards.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Effectively orients new employees.
Maintains a professional demeanor, is OCN certified, or is willing to become OCN-certified within two years of hire date.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Shows initiative for professional practice and pursuing ongoing education.

Experience, Qualifications, and Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current California Registered Nurse License and CPR certification required.
Approximately three years of Oncology nursing experience.
Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) is preferred.
Strong customer service background, preferably in a healthcare environment.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of drug names, both brand and generic, and available dosage forms.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Proficiency in computer processing functions and other standard office equipment.
Ability to resolve customer issues calmly and professionally with diplomacy and tact.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational skills.

Working Conditions
This position functions primarily indoors in a medical / business environment. Employees may be subject to blood-borne pathogens, radiation, bio waste, and other medically related factors, with exposure to moderate noise levels.
Visual acuity to read and compute screen and paper documents; close and distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus; hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers; ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and lift and move 25 pounds regularly; ability to sit for hours at a time. The employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels and interruptions. May occasionally be asked to work overtime.
