Job Description

Geisinger is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our general surgery department located in Jersey Shore, PA. Successful candidate will perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician/surgeon, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend services through the more effective and efficient use of knowledge in a sphere of decision-making required to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. Assists in gathering the data necessary and implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. Serves as the patient's advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between the patient and physician.

Reports directly to the supervising physician for all patient-care-related functions.
Reports to the Department Director for non-patient administrative responsibilities as a physician extender.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of a CAA/HEP approved physician assistant program eligible or certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistant and eligible or certified by the State Board of Medicine required. Licensure required.
Maintenance of BCLS Certification every two years required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Travel and outreach is required

Geisinger Medical Center: (GMC),located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Childrens Hospital. GMC, a Magnet Hospital, maintains the regions only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics.
