Job Description

The Surgical Services Director is a highly visible nurse leader central to the functioning of the multidisciplinary patient care areas. The person facilitates and coordinates professional and ancillary services equipment and supplies on a daily basis. The SSD is accountable for the delivery of quality care through management of all services related in the Operating Room.

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. A Masters Degree in Nursing or Health related field is preferred.

Licensure/Registration/Certification: Current RN licensure
Work Experience: Minimum of five years of relevant clinical/supervisory experience. Knowledge of New York State and Federal regulations governing perioperative nursing. Demonstrated leadership ability. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting.

Job Relationships (Responsible to/for, works with): Responsible to the SVP Patient Care Services. Responsible for OR Manager, Team Leaders, ASU/PACU Manager, Central Sterile Manager and nursing staff assigned to surgical services/operating room/perioperative services. Oversees the Center for Wound Healing and works collaboratively with NY Hyperbarics.
Demonstrate the performance standards of behavior which support service excellence (PHC CARES).
Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors and/or employees by being aware of the safety and health policies of the hospital and adhering to and enhancing these policies via the identification/reporting/correcting of unsafe conditions.
Complies with established department/hospital policies, rules and regulations.
Ensures effective communication that will facilitate efficient and effective daily operations.
Facilitates the professional development of the nursing management staff in order to ensure the implementation and actualization of hospital and department goals and objectives.
Collaborates with the SVP Patient Care Services in developing, defining and planning for the implementation of philosophy, objectives and standards for the Department of Nursing and their incorporation into the clinical division
Directs the development, implementation and adherence to departmental and divisional fiscal plans
Assures that the principles of the Hospitals Policy and Procedures and the Labor Contracts are enforced and adhered to while striving toward optimal employee relations
Plans, coordinates and evaluates projects and special events that contribute to the growth and development of the Nursing Department.
Collaborates with the SVP Patient Care Services in developing, implementing and evaluating a Performance Improvement Program that reflects current and appropriate standards of nursing practice.
Ensure the efficient and effective management of daily operations
