Job Description

As the multi-specialty group practice for the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School, University of Minnesota Physicians has more than 950 physicians and 1,600 health professionals, providing clinical care in over 100 specialty and sub-specialty areas. Our mission is three-fold: delivering exceptional patient care, advancing medicine through research, and training the next generation of health professionals.QualificationsThe Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology of the University of Minnesota Medical School seeks a fulltime clinical faculty member who is ASHI certified or eligible. Academic rank, compensation and appointment type will be based on qualifications and experience. Candidates must have demonstrated ability in teaching and in scholarly productivity. Minimum requirements for an M.D. include eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota, board certified or board eligible in CP or AP/CP and American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) board eligible/board certified. Minimum requirements for a Ph.D. include completion of a Ph.D. in a related field, board eligible/board certified by (ASHI) and board eligible/certified by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI).About the JobThis position will spend significant time in collaboration with the Immunology/HLA Laboratory Medical Director. This large laboratory program supports preeminent solid organ (kidney, heart, lung, pancreas, liver) and stem cell transplant programs for the University of Minnesota Medical Center as well as other metro and regional transplant programs including LifeSource, the organ procurement organization that serves communities in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and portions of Western Wisconsin. The Immunology/HLA Laboratory is fully accredited in all areas of histocompatibility testing including DNA-based HLA class I and II typing, solid phase antibody testing, and cross matching. The Immunology/HLA laboratory performs about 25,000 HLA antibody tests for pre-transplantation listing and post-transplant, donor-specific antibody monitoring, about 1,500 flow cytometic crossmatches and 8,000 HLA typing by Real time-PCR, sequence-specific primers, sequence-specific oligonucleotide probe hybridization testing, and Sanger sequencing. Sign-out responsibilities, on-call duties, resident supervision and conferences are shared with other members of the clinical immunology faculty.Academic time will be used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate's area of specialty/research experience with a goal of developing collaborative or independent, externally funded research. Faculty will be active in their national organizations and foster an academic environment for medical students, residents and faculty.The University of Minnesota is a large and diverse university and medical school with a large subspecialty practice plan of over 950 physicians and 1,600 health professionals, University of Minnesota Physicians.
