Computational Biologist - Single Cell Biology
The Jackson Laboratory
Accepts J-1 Visas
The Computational Biologist, working with limited supervision and reporting to the Director of the Single Cell Biology Laboratory, will participate in the collaborative single cell biology program aligned with institutional strategy and direction and make leading contributions to the cutting-edge projects at The Jackson Laboratory. They will be tightly integrated with the wet lab biologists within the Single Cell Biology Laboratory and have direct access to, and guidance from, the JAX Computational Sciences team. The successful candidate will be intimately involved in all single cell projects initiated by JAX faculty and other divisions across the JAX organization in addition to collaborating with clinical and industry partners. Projects will span a diverse array of biomedical disciplines such as cancer biology, ageing, immunology, infectious diseases, metabolism, neural disorders, muscular disorders, stem cell and developmental biology but have a particular emphasis on developing precision medicine applications applied to cancer. Over the past 2 years the Single Cell Biology Laboratory has generated over 2 million single cell transcirptomes and is actively engaged in imaging mass cytometry in addition to numerous other data types to visualize biology at single cell resolution.
While the successful candidate will have primary responsibility for providing a robust and innovative computational pipeline for single cell biology workflows, the ideal candidate will have a very strong computational skill set and, while not essential, have some wet lab cell/molecular biology experience. It is expected the candidate will train current single cell laboratory wet lab scientists in computational methods and in turn be involved in the design of wet lab single cell biology protocol development and experimentation. The candidate will additionally be expected to drive and/or contribute to publications and grant applications.
The position is located in Connecticut. They are expected to sustain collaborations with The JAX research staff and faculty on both the Farmington, CT and Bar Harbor, ME campuses and to visit Bar Harbor on an occasional basis.

The Jackson Laboratory (www.jax.org) is a nonprofit biomedical research institute with over 1,800 employees across three campuses nationwide. Our mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for human disease, and to empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. JAX's research institute in Connecticut, The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (JAX-GM), is transforming medicine by improving patient care, lowering costs, and increasing life span and health span. JAX-GMs research focuses on the complex genetic causes of disease, and on the development of genomic solutions tailored to each person's unique genetic makeup.
JAX-GM sits on a 17-acre site on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center. The 183,500-square-foot facility opened in the fall of 2014. Now, it houses over 300 biomedical researchers, technicians and support staff in state-of-the-art computing facilities and laboratories. Our employees work in a collaborative, value-driven, and team-based environment where the focus is on advancing science and improving patients lives.
JAX-GM resides in the scenic town of Farmington, in the states capitol region. The Hartford region, which offers some of the best public schools in the country, is made up of both bigger cities and smaller, charming historic New England towns. JAX-GM is also geographically located within 2 hours of Boston and New York and is close to multiple transportation systems including bus lines, highways, railroads and international airports.
