How will you make an impact?


The Sustaining Product Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide daily ownership of consumable product specifications and supporting processes used for batching and bottling for sale. This position will troubleshoot issues and develop more effective methods of manufacturing consumables to improve safety, quality delivery and cost while also reducing inherent waste in our processes.


What will you do?
Serve as primary owner of consumable product specifications and author of supporting SOPs and DHRs used in batching process
Serve as change control representative for Sustaining Engineering and product specifications
Troubleshoot recurring batch adjustment causes and problem solve top drivers
Product testing for chemical raw materials and finished goods. Includes problems with product consistency or out-of-spec finished goods
Manage product testing for new chemical raw materials or raw materials from new suppliers in support of cost reduction opportunities and/or development of secondary sources
Product testing and inspection for products bottled/bagged on new production equipment
Product stability testing in support of Kalamazoo consumable product rationalization activities
Stability testing to support future expiration dates and keep the site current on past due expiration dates
Performs research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects
Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement
Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
Supports the organization with initial compliance and ongoing preparation, testing and monitoring of conformance to established quality assurance processes and standards for manufacturing and production
Serves as cleaning validation representative for Engineering
Identifies risk and evaluates deficiencies while working with internal departments/business units to appropriately remedy them.
Performs analysis and identifies trends in the inspection of finished products, in-process materials and bulk raw materials, and recommends corrective actions when necessary.
Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture of new or existing products
Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products
Estimates manufacturing cost and makes recommendations for equipment and tooling requirements of new or existing product lines
Provides technical input to purchasing and other functional areas.
How will you get here?
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biomedical, Chemical Engineering or related field
Masters degree preferred
5 years of related experience preferred
Hazardous Chemical experience
Computer experience including Word, Excel, and Power Point
Self-starter, attention to detail, team player and excellent oral, written, presentation and role model leadership skills
Collaborative problem solver capable of working with cross functional teams
Willing to travel as needed for position-critical job functions
Ability to wear respiratory protection, required, the ability to lift, push and/or pull up to 40lbs
Ability to read, write and understand English
