Job Description

The Chuang Lab at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine has two post-doctoral openings in cancer computational biology. See http://chuanglabwiki.jax.org/Openings. The Chuang lab is a leader in cancer computational biology, with particular expertise in xenografts, intratumoral evolution, and cloud computing approaches for cancer data. Our openings are in:

Molecular evolution and ecology of tumors treated with immunotherapy and/or chemotherapy.

Development of artificial intelligence approaches to predict outcome from combined cancer genomics and imaging data.

Both of these positions involve close collaborations with experimental groups at JAX studying clinical tissues and conducting new experiments in xenografts and organoids. Thus candidates will have novel opportunities at the intersection of data interpretation, algorithms, and experimental design. These openings are supported by grants from the National Cancer Institute. The Chuang lab co-leads the Data Coordination Center for the NCI PDXnet, a multi-institute consortium supported by the NCI Cancer Moonshot Initiative, and our group is developing analyses for large genomic and phenotypic datasets from within this project.

For these positions and our postdoctoral opportunities in general, the ideal candidate will have Ph.D. experience in computational biology, molecular evolution, cancer genomics, or a similar discipline. Strong computing (programming, data analysis, statistical inference, etc.), publication, and communication skills are essential. Outstanding applicants new to computational biology will also be considered as the lab has an extensive record of training candidates who originally studied in other fields, including physics, applied math, computer science, and experimental molecular biology. Across these backgrounds, enthusiasm and aptitude for computational biology are what define the lab. Interested applicants should submit a CV and a research statement with their application. Reference letters will be requested subsequently.

About us:

The Jackson Laboratory (www.jax.org) is a nonprofit biomedical research institute with over 1,800 employees across three campuses nationwide. Our mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for human disease, and to empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. JAX's research institute in Connecticut, The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (JAX-GM), is transforming medicine by improving patient care, lowering costs, and increasing life span and health span. JAX-GMs research focuses on the complex genetic causes of disease, and on the development of genomic solutions tailored to each person's unique genetic makeup.

JAX-GM sits on a 17-acre site on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center. The 183,500-square-foot facility opened in the fall of 2014. Now, it houses over 300 biomedical researchers, technicians and support staff in state-of-the-art computing facilities and laboratories. Our employees work in a collaborative, value-driven, and team-based environment where the focus is on advancing science and improving patients lives.

JAX-GM resides in the scenic town of Farmington, in the states capitol region. The Hartford region, which offers some of the best public schools in the country, is made up of both bigger cities and smaller, charming historic New England towns. JAX-GM is also geographically located within 2 hours of Boston and New York and is close to multiple transportation systems including bus lines, highways, railroads and international airports.
