For the past several years, IUH Methodist has admitted more than 3,500 trauma patients annually, placing it among the largest 5% of trauma centers by volume. There is also a busy Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Service - nearly as voluminous as the Trauma Service - that draws patients from the entire state. The hospital serves as the home base for a fleet of four LifeLine Helicopters as well as fixed wing transport capabilities. There are approximately 100,000 ED visits per year. IUH Methodist is the flagship of the statewide IU Health Healthcare Network and the evolving IU Health Trauma System. IU Health, in turn, has partnered with Indiana University to form an expanded multispecialty group called IU Health Physicians, which will serve as the employer for new acute care surgeons. There are currently a total of nine nurse practitioners dedicated to the program, as well as a Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator, Trauma Rounding Nurse, four Trauma Registry personnel, an Injury Prevention Coordinator, a Trauma Education Coordinator, and others. In addition, there is an opportunity to establish an elective general surgery practice, as well.
