DUTIES:

A typical day includes:

  • Direct and participate in the performance of occupationally required physicals.
  • Direct and participate in the evaluation and treatment of work-related injuries or diseases.
  • Serves as the occupational medicine consultant to the Shipyard.
  • Plan work, set priorities and prepare schedules for the completion of work by subordinates.
  • Evaluate performance; provide advice, counsel, or instruction to individual employees concerning work and administrative matters.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient education and experience to perform the duties of this position for which you are applying.  Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your qualifications as they relate to this position.  Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience. 

  • MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school?  If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate.  Please make sure your application includes your ECFMG or 5th Pathway Certificate number including date awarded.
  • 4 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Occupational Medicine;  (i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 1 yr. fellowship and/or experience)?  Your resume must reflect that you have a sufficient level of expertise in Occupational Medicine to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-14 Level.
  • Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
  • Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Occupational Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
  • Board certification is desired but not required.

In addition, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GP-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:  Provide comprehensive occupational medicine consultations, evaluations and treatment both initial and follow-up of work-related injuries or diseases.

REQUIREMENTS:

A security clearance is a requirement of this position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal.  If you possess a security clearance, please indicate the level and termination date in your resume.

In accordance with Executive Order 12564, applicants selected are required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment.  In addition, this position is a drug-testing designated position (TDP) subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Must, as a condition of employment, be immunized on an annual basis against influenza.

Employees who have contact with or penitential exposure to human blood or blood products (whether from patient care, laboratory, or other health care settings) are provided hepatitis B virus vaccine in accordance with the local blood borne pathogen exposure-control plan.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

This position requires a 1-year probationary period.

If selected, you are required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.
