This position is located in the Surgical Services Directorate (DSS), Women's Health Clinic, at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) Portsmouth, Virginia.

  • Active physician license awarded by any state

DUTIES:

  • Provide diagnosis and treatment for OB/GYN patients including those of an unusually complex and difficult nature.
  • Perform surgical procedures guiding and directing the resident physician, advanced practice nurses and/or nurses.
  • Review and study medical history and progress of patients and appropriately follow on with these cases to ensure treatment efficacy and alter the course of treatment as indicated.
  • Provide training, supervision and evaluation of NMCP staff including residents/interns, medical students and other individuals in training.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Applicants must possess:

  • MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school?  If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate.  Please make sure your application includes your ECFMG or 5th Pathway Certificate number including date awarded.
  • 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Obstetrics/Gynecology (i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 2 yrs. fellowship and/or experience).  Your resume must reflect that you have a sufficient level of expertise in Obstetrics/Gynecology to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-15 Level.
  • Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
  • Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as an Obstetrics/Gynecology Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
  • Board certification is desired but not required.

BUMED:  In addition, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GP-15 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providediagnosis, treatment, and consultative services for Obstetrics/Gynecologypatients including those of an unusually complex and difficult nature.
