Job Description
This position is an Active Duty Air Force Officer position, practicing as an Aerospace Medicine/Flight Surgeon Physician at a Military Treatment Facility. Initial requirements are listed below: Degree. A doctor of medicine or a doctor of osteopathy degree from an approved school of medicine or osteopathy, acceptable to the Air Force Surgeon General, is mandatory. Licensure. Applicants must have current, valid, and unrestricted state medical license. Graduate Medical Education (GME). Applicants must be in the final year OR have completed a US residency and/or fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in the specialty to which applying. Board Certification. Board certification in the specialty in which applying is required. In a few instances, such as residents in their final year of residency training, this requirement may be waived. Work Experience. Applicants must have at least one year of active practice in their specialty within the last two years. In a few instances, such as residents in their final year of residency training, this requirement may be waived. Residents in their final year of residency training may have certain requirements waived that are either not possible (e.g., board certification) or not routinely accomplished by physicians at this stage of training (e.g., independent DEA license). Flight Surgeon Requirements: In addition to the requirements mentioned above, flight surgeon applicants must be fully credentialed, board-certified, and privileged in primary care (Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Pediatrics) with one year of active practice within the last two years. Exceptions will only be considered by the AFPC/DPANP and the AF/SG Consultant for Aerospace Medicine. Applicants must pass a Flying Class II physical prior to submitting their application.
